I recently had a chance to take a break with Matt Schneider, one of the founders and co-organizers of the NYC Dads Group. With over 400 members, this is a pretty impressive collection of dads who share the common goal of being involved, nurturing, purposeful dads. After you read a little about Matt, jump over to my radio show, Bobblehead Dad on WebTalk Radio, for more of Matt! The show with Matt is titled “From Poker to Play Dates!”
Where’d you grow up? Englewood, Colorado
Any siblings? If so, where’d you fit in? Oldest of two– I have a younger sister.
Any good childhood nicknames you care to share with us? Hmmm . . . no nicknames that I can think of– what does that say about me?
Most embarrassing Halloween costume as a kid? Or as an adult that you’d admit to? One of those terrible plastic costumes– I think it was a Yoda. I’m embarrassed and sad about it today because my Mom had made me a costume and I refused to wear it. I think I hurt her feelings more that day than any other.
Ever break a bone? Nope.
One word to describe your dad: Good-hearted
Two words to describe your mom: Pragmatic and Hardworking
Where’s home today? New York, New York
When did you become a dad? The day we decided that it was time to start trying to get pregnant (my closest friends might say I’ve always been a dad)
First thought when you held your oldest: Anybody who claims to remember their first thought at that moment is lying.
Tell us about your family today: They are at the center of everything I do.
Hush little baby don’t you cry, daddy’s gonna buy you (complete): see answer to next question
Pick-up or Convertible? Convertible (Porsche 911 Speedster if I’m allowed to pick)
Best “dad” advice you’ve ever received: Let them play.
Pop Tarts or fresh fruit? Neither
Are you more of a “Butcher”, “Baker” or “Candlestick Maker?” Baker (my grandfather and great-uncle both owned their own bakeries in Denver)
Number of hours of sleep you get each night: 7-8
Most awesome “Dad” moment in the last 24 hours: The big hugs before bedtime.
