Yesterday I told you the story about my mom. And her “mean loads of laundry.” All true.
Bless my father for highlighting to me – as a young boy – the gifts given our family every day by my mom. In her laundry. In her cooking. In her housecleaning. In every chore of love she gave us.
But there’s more.
You see, my father washed a meaner load of laundry. I just never knew.
I was one of those kids who hit the lottery when it came to having parents who knew how to show every day care. But it wasn’t until after my mom died – when my dad took care of me single-handed – that I saw his day-to-day caring qualities shine.
Everywhere. In everything.
It was my dad who taught me that men are equally capable of nurturing and caring. And while the loss of my mother was monumental – I never felt the loss of care. Ever. That was because of my dad.
And it’s the reason why I not only am comfortable being a dad who proudly shows his caring side – it’s what I value the most. More than professional accolades. More that pats on the back from others. More than financial success.
Knowing that my children know my love through the every day things I do for them is success to me.
Plus, how cool is it to say, “Hi, I’m a dad. And I wash a mean load of laundry.”
Every day, care. Here’s my notes from CES.
